Friend’s Call to Faithful Resistance

march28

From their earliest days, Friends have known what it means to stand against the machinery of unchecked power. In 17th-century England, Friends were jailed by the thousands for refusing to swear loyalty oaths to the Crown or conform to the state church. Their refusal was not rebellion for its own sake. It was a declaration that conscience belongs to God, not the government. We have endured beatings, confiscation of property, and public scorn because they would not surrender the Inner Light to political authority.

Seeing with your Eyes

History teaches a sobering truth: democratic erosion rarely announces itself with dramatic declarations. It advances gradually — through normalized abuses, expanded executive power, the targeting of dissenters, and the slow conditioning of the public to accept what once would have shocked the conscience. This is happening now in front of your own eyes.

We have faced such moments before.

The testimony of integrity insists that truth matters.
The testimony of equality insists that no human authority is absolute.
The testimony of peace insists that coercion is not righteousness.
The testimony of community insists that fear must not divide us.

The question for every generation is not whether power will overreach. It is whether people of faith will recognize the moment and remain faithful.

Resistance is not loud for spectacle.
It is not partisan.
It is not driven by anger.
It is grounded in a Spiritual Faith — and then expressed in action.

It means:

-Refusing to surrender truth for comfort.
-Refusing to allow fear to silence conscience.
-Refusing to treat any human being as disposable.
-Refusing to confuse patriotism with moral surrender.

When civil authority contradicts the Light within, We have historically chosen the Light — even at personal cost.
That choice may be asked of us again.
The call is not to outrage.
It is to courage.
The call is not to hostility.
It is to faithfulness.

Who will stand?

Friends have answered before.
We are called to answer again.
