Staying on the Path of Love: A Reflection on Political Division

hope

Dear Friends,

I completely understand the anger, exhaustion, and hurt so many of us are feeling right now. It is devastating to watch the ongoing political division in our country. But as we navigate these heavy emotions, we have to remember that the people caught up in the MAGA movement aren’t just headlines or political adversaries—in many cases, they are our own parents, siblings, neighbors, and lifelong friends.

It is clear that they have been deeply manipulated. They’ve been lied to by leaders who leverage real, everyday anxieties to enrich the privileged, tricking people into voting against their own well-being and the well-being of their communities. This anger is being used with terrible effectiveness.

We probably cannot change their minds through political arguments right now, but we must not let their anger consume our own spirits. If we give in to hatred and contempt, we fall into the exact same trap. Our testimonies teach us that the true path to a better world is paved with respect, love, and peace. Isolating ourselves from our families might feel like self-defense, but it ultimately deepens the divide. What those caught in this deception need from us is our compassion, and our unwavering commitment to love.

When we resort to name-calling, we lose our own way. If they slap us on one cheek, let us offer the other—not out of weakness, but out of the spiritual strength of our convictions. Even if they strike both sides, it is not a victory for hatred if we refuse to hate.

Let’s continue to hold them in the Light, hoping they remember the foundational love we were all taught. They may be unable to see the right path right now, but by choosing love, we ensure that we stay on it.

A Query for Reflection: How can we stand firmly against injustice and manipulation while still holding space for the Inner Light in those who vote differently than we do?
